Selecting & Working With Recruiters:
Career success affects every aspect of your life since it provides most people with their primary source of income.  MAKE SURE THE RECRUITER YOU DEAL WITH IS EXPERIENCED, PROFESSIONAL & ETHICAL.
You should seek recruiters who specialize with people with your type of experience.  Recruiters who are educated or experienced in your field will be more successful in promoting you to prospective employers.  Ask the recruiter about their experience and qualifications (
see Profile of Agency Principal).
Once you have decided to work with a recruiter be sure to be responsive to the recruiters inputs and requests.  Ultimately, it will help you achieve your objective.

The Internet, Job boards, etc., vs. Our Services:
The four biggest job boards as of year 2002 accounted for less than 3% of positions filled.  Most jobs are either filled by personal referral or by niche placement firms (firms that specialize in the expertise required for the position).
Posting your resume on an electronic job board makes it widely available, but at the same time you lose control of that document and it may propagate across numerous databases without your knowledge or consent.  The drawbacks to this run-away-resume scenario range from redundant submissions of your resume for a position to your current employer gaining knowledge of your job search.
Due to the ease of response, companies are flooded with replies to job board postings but 95% of the respondents are not qualified for the job.  When you apply by that method you are in that pool of resumes.
We have direct contact with company hiring officials and in 95% of cases that includes direct contact with the technical manager actually filling the position.  This assures that qualified applicants get proper review and consideration.

Considerations Before Starting a Job Search:
Before you start a job search you should do the following:

  1. Determine what you are dissatisfied with in your current job and/or what objective you would hope to achieve by moving to a new position and company.
  2. Make a diplomatic attempt to resolve any issues that your current employer might address to retain your services.  This  a) may save you a needless job search, b) will give you a better feel for the value of your current employer places on your services, and c) will show you the true motivation behind any counter offer subsequently extended by your company.

Preparing For The Job Search Process:

  1. Determine what objectives and constraints are important.  (ex., positions of interest, compensation issues, how open are you to relocation and/or travel, if there are specific companies or industries that you wish to target or avoid.)
  2. Evaluate your current and desired positions relative to your experience and market conditions.
  3. Prepare a professional resume that optimizes the presentation of your skills, experience and achievements. (Contact us for resume assistance or sample documents.)

Confidentiality Issues:
We will not submit your resume to a company without your permission and likewise will not discuss your job search activities with anyone without your permission as well.  You should demand the same of any recruiter.  Working with recruiters who do not extend this courtesy to you will result in the uncontrolled propagation of your resume and in multiple submissions of your resume for the same position. Repercussions to candidates on this issue can range from current employers learning of your job search activities to elimination from consideration on new positions due to multiple resume submissions.  You should avoid the run-away-resume scenario.
